Airplane Mode

Not until a week ago, did I start to use this feature, except for when I was on an airplane forced to use this mode if I wanted my phone on during my 35,000 mile high visit. Only after entering my oh, so, precious cell phone number to a healthcare website last week, did I quickly learn that someone in every state of the union was phoning me. Send to voicemail was my first option, and after a day of incessant ringing, I swiped up, and took a much needed break from the ringtone, text message and Snapchat ping. Silence. I felt like I had entered a zen zone for a temporary state. The lights went on in my head. About six months ago, I started the practice of taking "green space", which for me means time for myself, to do what I need and want to do. I schedule it into my day. So I added another item to that green space. I now put my phone in Airplane Mode. I believe we owe it to ourselves, and to others, to get away. The non-stop texting, emailing, and phone calls we are addicted to. Really, one hour away during business hours is, and has to become acceptable given the frenetic pace we have all succumb to. For those who instantly jump to the sound of the ping, buzz, and ring-please note when you come out of AP mode, it's like Christmas day: airplane mode off, ping, ring, ding and you have all sorts of presents awaiting you. Give it a try. Make it a part of your daily ritual. Trust me, people know how, and where to find you, if need be.
