Authentic Leadership

Successful leaders stay true to themselves by developing and maintaining leadership styles that not only fit the needs of their business but also fit their own beliefs, core values and personality. Ask yourself:

1- Is my leadership style comfortable to me and does it reflect who I truly am? Some leaders are totally uncomfortable and or/annoyed leading anyone and overcompensate with an Oger Style approach (brute, mean, monster, fiend, barbarian, cruel, savage, or tyrant).

2- Do I assert myself sufficiently, or have I become tentative? A better way to look at this is to ask do you micro manage, or not manage? I think of a boss I once had whose leadership style was "if you don't hear from me.. that's a good thing." Well, not so much.

3- Am I too politically correct? If you consider yourself really good at office politics, you have probably kissed too many rings which leads to inauthentic leadership styles and more out for your own career than the careers of others.
